Fish Catching in Tarska Vala
The particular way of fishing that takes place in the Tar valley has been going on in this exact way for a thousand years. Testimony to this give the numerous documents, most frequently those that deal with permissions for fishing issued to the Poreč archbishops.
The fish are prevented from leaving the bay by a net. The trapped fish are then pulled towards the shore by a net measuring up to 2000 metres. The fish most often found is sea-bass and grey mullet arriving in great flocks to this bay since the beginning of time, the place where freshwater of the Mirna river mixes with the sea water. The second fishermen bay is Santa Marina, the property of Vabriga inhabitants. The fishermen sail out into open sea in the evening, “throw” the nets and return back the next morning to pull out the nets with fish, if lucky.
In this bay is also located the breeding site of mussels as well as the excursion site with a restaurant. When the fishing season is over, the fishermen return with great dedication to cultivating their olive groves and vineyards.
